Celebrex capsules 200mg contain celecoxib, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), used to relieve the pain and swelling of inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis and also to relieve menstrual pain.

Celebrex general information

What is Celebrex used for?

Celebrex capsules 200mg are used to treat chronic inflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, to reduce pain, inflammation, tenderness, stiffness and swelling in the affected joints. They are also used for the management of acute pain and treatment of dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), when sufficient pain relief from other medications has not been achieved. Celebrex capsules 200mg does not cure arthritic disease but can relieve symptoms of pain and inflammation and improve the functional use of affected joints.

How does Celebrex work?

Celebrex capsules 200mg contain celecoxib, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the production of specific chemicals called prostaglandins (PG) that mediate inflammation. Celecoxib in Celebrex capsules 200mg is a specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) that is induced during the inflammation process and is responsible for the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins like PGE2, which causes pain, swelling and other symptoms of inflammation. Celecoxib also has anti-pyretic action (reduces fever) but has no effect on the cyclooxygenase 1 enzyme (COX-1) that is needed for normal cellular processes. By inhibiting the action of COX-2 Celebrex capsules 200mg relieve the symptoms of inflammation, including pain, swelling, and joint stiffness.

What does Celebrex contain?

Celebrex capsules 200mg contain the active ingredient celecoxib, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) that reduces pain and inflammation. They also contain: lactose, sodium lauryl sulphate, povidone, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, gelatine, titanium dioxide, indigo carmine CI 73015 /200 mg capsule.

Treating arthritis with Celebrex

Celebrex capsules 200mg contain celecoxib, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) that is induced during the inflammation process and is responsible for the synthesis of inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins (PG), particularly PGE2. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic inflammatory diseases in which the joints become inflamed, swollen and painful. Celecoxib in Celebrex capsules 200mg help relieve the pain, swelling and other symptoms of inflammation by inhibiting the action of COX-2 therefore blocking PGE2 production. This action reduces pain and inflammation, and improves the functional use of the arthritic joint.
